One of the things I learned when I did my first Internet search for Zoids was that there are several Zoid games. After a long search I have tracked down these. The following are screen shots of the 1987 Nintendo game and the 1990 Gameboy game. Also, I relate my experience tracking the C64 game. I do not have the actual cartridges of these games, I got them via several emulators. There may be another Nintendo game out there. Please let me know if you have any information about it.

The Nintendo Game

[The Start Menu]

The thrilling Start menu. The Zoids logo flashes momentarily, but that's all.

[The Zoid you play]

This is you. You get to type your name in after this.

[The playing field]

That's right! After all that, this is what you get, a weird Zelda like game. The text and commands are all in Japanese, of course.

[Know thy Enemy]

Approach another character and you can pull up information on it. This actually is a very useful feature for me.

[The Battle]

Here's the combat mode. It has to be one of the clumsiest combat sequences I've ever seen. The controls are horrible. I have no idea if I'm turning to attack an enemy or if he's just walking in front of my guns, since the background never moves.

The whole thing is accompanied by very annoying Nintendo music.

The Gameboy Game

The Gameboy game is a basic side scroller. You go along, picking up powerups and shields as you blast various Zoids. You get three lives, and when you die (and you will, it's very easy to get killed) you're put into another Zoid, one with different attributes.

[Gameboy Start screen]

Again, a boring start screen. Why is there no animation?

[Chose your side]

Here you get to chose which side you will serve.

[stat!]

The stats for your fighting vehicle.

[Common foes]

Your most common foe, a fast moving, non-firing Zoid that swoops from right to left.

[Powerup!]

A more deadly enemy with tracking missiles. Pick up the powerup for more shields and weapons.

[He blown up REAL good!]

Until, of course, you get killed!

[NEXT!]

You get three tries in three different Zoids.

Emulators
Emulators are programs that mimic other computers or game consoles. With these you are able to use software written for other systems. Most notable are the game console emulators that let you play the origional versions of classic games on your home PC. I downloaded my emulators and game images from Stumbler.
