Z Knights and Starriors

Skullviper's box art Z Knights, another of Tomy's glueless model series, was released in the early Nineties. They share the Zoids series characteristics for strong detailing and cleverly constructed movements. Tomy called this Real Walker Model System. As with Zoids, there is an involved back story to the series, but of course it is in Japanese. Tomy did, however, put this intriguing snippet of English on one of their boxes:

Battle Armor is a generic name of humanized battle weapon. Battle Armor is an epoch-making battle machine that the human race bought forth in the latter half of A.D. 2300. The initial machines were used to construct space stations after being undergone various kinds of tests. But this resulted in collecting data to extremely improve battle capability of Battle Armor in the space. Manipulation of Battle Armor is basically piloted system. But the basic operation could be done by self-judgement of the machine with loading battle learning computer.

As with my Zoids page, I am still learning a lot about this series. I've been fortunate enough to pick up a couple of Z Knights, and I hope to collect more. I currently own the Skullviper and Shutdown. Rom and Kilabyte will soon be joining the family. Here are a few scans to give you an idea what these toys are about.

Starriors

Peter Date's Starriors in a row

OK, I admit it, I completely missed out on the whole Starriors thing. I have vague recollections of the series, but I never got one. Fellow Zoids collector Peter Date (that's his collection up top) had this to say about them:
Starriors were a Marvel Comics cross over line. I managed to get all the figures about 10 I think and they had Tomy wind up weapons and Zoid pilots in their heads. Too difficult to describe. Tomy also did a range of wind up dinosaur skeletons which were pretty cool but the few I have are in poor condition.
